Vivid Natural Beauty

If vivid hair colors could be natural, what would your haircolor be?

I would hope mine would be peach:) I got to work on a fun project for a good friend of mine. Chelsea is a mom of three, a hairdresser, and an absolute badass. She literally will let me do anything I want to her hair.

With those free reigns, I have to take into consideration whats going to bring out her natural beauty the most. I could literally do any color of the rainbow on her, so if anything I had too many choices. However, the most important thing when purchasing color for yourself (clothes, makeup, jewelry, hair color, you catch my drift?), is to think about whats going to emphasize your favorite features about yourself? We don't want our clothes, our makeup, our jewelry, our HAIR, to overshadow our favorite natural features.

All those added things to our bodies should just be the picture frame that help the picture stand out. A good mentor and friend of mine, Richy Kandasamy, a world-renown colorist and creator of RIKIKO Beauty (I'll blog out about those products in the future, but go check them out!), once said, "The hair is the picture frame of the face."

Here's an easy list of what to assess when looking for the best colors and styles for your natural beauty:

  1. Skin tone (cool, warm) : even further than warm or cool : neutral, yellow, olive, rose or pink; also the depth or lightness of your skin (i.e. fair or dark?)
  2. Eye color (Hairdressers:not only just the eye color, but think about the level of lightness or depth in the eye color)
  3. Hair Texture (straight, wavy, curly)

There are honestly so many other factors, but those are just some basic ones that help me determine what features I want to help emphasize on my clients!

So with all of that being said, Chelsea's skin tone is cool, with amazing blue eyes. She wanted to rock a vivid color, but I wanted to make sure you could still see "Chelsea" before you saw the hair. I created an azure blue with a marine green to help those baby blue's pop. We went with a classic bob shape for the cut, that can be parted different ways to create different looks within just one haircut.

So here's my challenge to you: find your favorite features about yourself. Next time you go to see your hairdresser, make sure you both are picking out a look that will emphasize your natural beauty. Remember, a vivid color CAN emphasize your natural beauty, so have fun!!!
